After learning that cutting polystyrene with a laser cutter leads to fires and death, a hot wire cutter would be useful to cut foams and other materials.
Making one would be a simple build, material cost is low, or we could just buy one…

Agreed! This should be in theory a simple space build, and would be quite handy. Quite a good hacky project as well, we can use mostly recycled parts - even a laser cut frame for the whole thing.
As long as the frame isn’t made out of foam, ABS, polystyrene, or anything else that apparently leads to instant death in a laser cutter.
